ADEN – The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has warned that intensified fighting across multiple frontlines in Yemen is placing severe strain on the country's already fragile healthcare system, as hospitals struggle to cope with a growing number of casualties.
According to the ICRC, only a small proportion of health facilities across Yemen remain capable of providing comprehensive care for the wounded, raising concerns over the ability of medical services to respond to the increasing humanitarian needs generated by the conflict.
The organization said Yemeni hospitals are facing enormous pressure due to a surge in the number of injured people arriving for treatment, while limited resources and reduced medical capacity continue to hamper emergency response efforts.
The warning comes amid renewed clashes in several parts of the country, where years of conflict have severely damaged healthcare infrastructure and disrupted access to essential medical services. Humanitarian agencies have repeatedly cautioned that ongoing hostilities risk further deteriorating living conditions for millions of Yemenis.
The ICRC urged continued support for medical facilities and emphasized the need to ensure safe access to healthcare for civilians affected by the conflict, as hospitals and health workers confront mounting challenges in responding to the escalating violence.
