A Pakistani driver has been remanded for three days to assist police investigations into a fatal crash involving a 15-year-old motorcyclist in Sungai Petani.
SUNGAI PETANI: A 27-year-old Pakistani man has been remanded for three days from today to assist in investigations into a fatal accident involving a motorcycle ridden by a 15-year-old boy at Jalan Darul Aman Lagenda near here yesterday afternoon.
Kuala Muda police chief ACP Hanyan Ramlan said the man, a carpet and curtain salesman who was driving a Perodua Alza, was involved in a collision with the motorcycle ridden by Muhammad Afiq Izzat Mohd Rosidi.
“Investigations found that the victim was travelling from Jalan Mawar towards Jalan Darul Aman Lagenda when the Pakistani driver, coming from the opposite direction, allegedly turned right into the motorcycle’s path,” he said in a statement today.
Due to the close proximity, the motorcyclist was unable to avoid the car and crashed into its front left door. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, while the car driver escaped injury.
The body was taken to the Forensic Department of Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital for a post-mortem. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Hanyan said the district had recorded seven road accident fatalities in the past week, averaging one death a day, and urged road users to exercise greater caution to prevent further tragedies.
