Lawrence Dallaglio has been forced to sell his 2003 World Cup winner’s medal for the shockingly low price of just £54,000.
The 54-year-old was declared insolvent in 2025 following a costly divorce from his wife of 20 years. He has since faced accusations of excessive spending on his lavish lifestyle.
Dallaglio sold the family home for £2.4million last May, £900,000 below its original asking price. The day after the sale, he was declared bankrupt and ordered to repay an overdrawn director’s loan of more than £366,500.
Lawrence Dallaglio auctions 13 rugby items
Such have been his money troubles; the powerful number eight parted with 13 items from his rugby career at auction, including his 2003 Six Nations winner’s medal and his 2007 World Cup runner-up medal.
The former England captain raised £106,400, which, although substantial, will surely pale in comparison to its immense sentimental value.
The £54,000 raised from the 2003 Rugby World Cup winner’s medal was on the lower end of the estimate, with experts predicting a sale price of anything up to £80,000. But possibly the most depressing of all the auctioned items was the 1993 Rugby World Cup Sevens Final Winners medal, which fetched a measly £1,100.
Here is the full breakdown from the auction.

The former England captain is reportedly still in substantial debt to creditors, with HM Revenue & Customs and two others claiming over £400,000 in total, plus he reportedly owes a further £423,570 in overdrawn director’s loans for his sports company, Lawrence Dallaglio Ltd.
For a player who once lit up English rugby with barnstorming runs and powerful pre-match speeches, this is certainly a sad chapter in his life, but he has bounced back from adversity previously, and time will tell whether he can do it again.
