Colombo, Oct. 23 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka is exploring the introduction of passenger drone technology, also known as electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft, to improve urban air mobility, tourism and logistics.
A discussion on introducing the technology to the country was held at the Ministry of Defence today, chaired by Defence Secretary Air Vice Marshal Sampath Thuyacontha (Retd).
Senior officials from the Civil Aviation Authority of Sri Lanka and a delegation from Chinese technology company EHang Holdings attended the meeting.
The discussion focused on the potential of passenger drones to transform the local tourism industry by offering a new aerial transportation experience for both local and foreign tourists and connecting major tourist attractions.
As an initial step, EHang Holdings is scheduled to conduct a demonstration flight around Port City Colombo on November 11 to showcase the technology.
