The Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) wants to opt for vertical growth in its upcoming layouts, particularly in the 11 layouts it will develop along the Bengaluru Business Corridor (BBC), earlier known as the Peripheral Ring Road, said N.A. Haris, Chairman of the BDA. He was speaking at ‘#THTalksBengaluru’ on Thursday.
“Bengaluru needs to grow vertically, but we have four airports in the city — the Kempegowda International Airport, Yelahanka Air Force Base, Jakkur Flying School and HAL Airport — which have become a hindrance to vertical growth. By the time the area of restrictions for high-rises because of one airport ends, it overlaps with restrictions imposed by another airport. We need to navigate this. Mumbai and Hyderabad are growing vertically,” he said.
Apartment projects
He said the apartment projects developed by the BDA have also been a success, and that its inventory on sale is very minimal. He said the BDA would take up more apartment projects. “The BDA will continue to cater to all sections of society, especially the Economically Weaker Sections, and not just to the high-end market, like builders,” he said.
“Since we are selling flats at a cost basis, it is less than the market value. So, to prevent people from making a business out of buying from us and selling at exorbitant rates, we have now capped the number of flats and villas a person or an institution can buy from us,” he said.
