Denny Hamlin could not take advantage of Kyle Larson's mediocre day in the Freeway Insurance 500NASCAR Cup Series race on Oct. 18 at Phoenix.
Hamlin suffered a flat tire under green with less than 100 laps to go, losing a lap with a poorly-timed caution a few laps later. He finished 28th and dropped to fourth in the points.
Larson started outside the top 20 and remained there for most of the day, scoring zero stage points before finishing in 34th.
Larson remained the points leader, by five points ahead of Christopher Bell.
