Taking strict action and swift enforcement, the Sivaganga district police booked 18 cases against social media handlers for allegedly posting videos which incited violence and hatred on Thursday.

After taking stock of the social media accounts, the police blocked 44 accounts and booked cases against 18 handlers.
The supporters and opponents of the anti-social element were engaged in using the social media as a tool to convey their angst. In a drive, the police took stern action and also warned of severe legal consequences.
A senior officer in the Cyber Crime Wing said that they were monitoring 24x7 and the special teams were also on surveillance in the district on suspects, who allegedly posted the videos.
