Trans Nzoia - A communications officer attached to Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya's office was arrested by Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers in Kitale town on Thursday, October 22.
Natembeya's team identified the officer as Amos Boaz Masika, commonly known by the alias Hammer Hammer, and stated that he was picked up at gunpoint by DCI detectives.
Natembeya's team responds
The governor's camp reacted swiftly to the development, framing the arrest as a deliberate attempt to destabilise Natembeya's administration ahead of the 2027 General Election.
"The DCI have picked up Amos Boaz Masika, alias Hammer Hammer, a Communications Officer in the Office of the Governor, at gunpoint in Kitale town. It's a way the system wants to frustrate Governor George Natembeya," the team said in a statement.
The statement also contained a political message directed at Western Kenya voters, referencing Linda Mwananchi leader Edwin Sifuna and signalling continued support for his 2027 prospects.
"Even if they arrest everyone, Waluhya in 2027 wameerevuka! Kura yote ni kwa Sifuna! Haya ni mapito tu! We shall overcome," the statement read.
No official police statement
As of the time of reporting, the Kenya Police Service had not issued any official communication confirming or providing details of Masika's arrest.
The circumstances leading to his detention and the specific grounds on which DCI officers acted, remained unclear.
The alleged arrest comes amid fallout between Natembeya and President William Ruto.
