Guwahati: All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) chief Badruddin Ajmal has expressed support for the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), which is protesting against alleged Irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls and demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Ajmal spoke about the party’s support for CJP during his visit to Juria in the Rupohihat constituency on Thursday as part of his ongoing ‘Dhanyabad Yatra’ to thank voters who backed him in the Nagaon Lok Sabha by-election, which he lost to BJP candidate Devashish Sharma.
When a reporter asked his stance on the CJP, Ajmal said the CJP is doing good things and that they have the support of the party.
The AIUDF chief also reiterated the demand for justice for late singer Zubeen Garg.
During the visit, the AIUDF chief launched a fresh attack on the Congress, claiming that the party had lost its political relevance in Nagaon.
“Congress has disappeared from Nagaon,” Ajmal claimed, while expressing confidence about his party’s prospects in future elections.
He further predicted that the AIUDF would win five Assembly seats and one Lok Sabha seat from Nagaon in the next elections.
Despite his defeat in the Nagaon by-election, Ajmal has continued visiting different areas to thank voters and maintain contact with supporters.
The outreach campaign is being carried out across constituencies as the AIUDF chief seeks to strengthen the party’s connection with the public following the electoral setback.
