A temporary fundraising space at the Armazém Regimental in Lagos has raised €8,349 for Cadela Carlota & Companhia, helping to support the care of abandoned dogs and cats in the area.
We are grateful to Lagos City Council and the Parish Council of São Gonçalo de Lagos for their support in making this initiative possible, as well as to everyone who contributed to its success.
The total includes €6,820 in sales and €1,529 in donations. Behind these figures was a team of more than 30 volunteers, working together to prepare, organise and run the initiative.
Red project-managed the whole undertaking, co-ordinating the team and putting in many hours to make it happen. We are very grateful for her commitment, as well as the help of Marija, Brigitte, Anja and Glenna behind the scenes.

Thank you also to everyone who volunteered in the shop, particularly those who covered multiple shifts. Karin deserves a mention for the countless hours she spent creating beautiful handmade items and generously donating them for the benefit of our animals.
Something else stood out during the fundraising: many of the people who came to support us also took the time to thank us for the work we do. It was a lovely reminder that the relationship between a rescue association and its supporters goes both ways.
We depend on the generosity of our community, but the encouragement we receive means a great deal to our volunteers, too. Their time and effort make initiatives like this possible.
The money raised will help meet the everyday costs of caring for animals, as well as provide some flexibility when unexpected arrivals need urgent attention.
Most recently, four small puppies were found hiding under a bush inside our shelter after apparently being thrown over the fence.

Thankfully, all four are now safe in a foster home. They appear to be doing well, although they have fleas and some skin irritation, which is being treated. They will be available for adoption when they are ready.
Cases like this highlight why fundraising is so important. Veterinary treatment, food, shelter and foster care all cost money, and we need to be ready to help animals whenever they arrive.
Looking ahead, we hope to bring more of our dogs into Lagos so that residents and visitors can meet them and learn more about adoption. Our partners and supporters are also planning further fundraising activities in the coming months.
Keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates on upcoming activities, dogs looking for homes and other ways to support our work. Every donation, every hour volunteered and every word of encouragement helps us continue caring for animals in need.
