The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has explained the requirements for changing a name on a Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC). Applicants must submit an application and provide specific details to complete the process.
According to NADRA, applicants must provide their updated name and the CRMS number of a verified computerized birth certificate. The certificate must be issued by a union council, municipal committee, or cantonment board.
However, additional documents are required for citizens changing their names due to a change of religion. In such cases, applicants must submit a certificate issued by a Dar-ul-Ifta.
NADRA has also clarified that citizens can change their CNIC name only once in their lifetime. Women are exempt from this restriction if they want to change their names after marriage.
Applicants do not need to submit photocopies of supporting documents. Instead, they must provide the relevant document numbers issued by NADRA or the concerned union council.
The authority shared these guidelines to clarify the requirements and help citizens complete the CNIC name-change process more easily.
