Samsung Episholdings disclosed on Oct. 21 that its subsidiary Samsung Bioepis signed an exclusive supply contract for “SB12” through the Productive Development Partnership (PDP) project led by the Brazilian government.
SB12 is a biosimilar to “Soliris (eculizumab)," a rare disease treatment developed by U.S.-based Alexion. Eculizumab is a monoclonal antibody that inhibits complement protein C5 and is used to treat rare diseases such as paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinuria (PNH).
The contract was made through the PDP program led by the Brazilian government. The PDP is a public-private cooperation program promoted by the Brazilian government to stabilize pharmaceutical supply and strengthen local manufacturing capabilities.
Samsung Bioepis said it plans to sign additional supply contracts in the future to carry out the agreement. Detailed terms, including specific supply volume and unit price, have not yet been determined.
Samsung Bioepis said, “We plan to make a subsequent disclosure either at the time when additional matters are confirmed in future supply contracts and a disclosure obligation arises, or within 1 month.”
