Uzbekistan is installing automatic air quality monitoring stations near airports across the country, with the first units launched at Samarkand and Fergana airports in October.
Uzbekistan Airports reported that the stations were commissioned on October 9 and October 15. The company plans to install similar equipment near all international airports in the country.
The stations operate around the clock, measuring concentrations of major air pollutants, including nitrogen dioxide, sulfur dioxide, carbon monoxide, ozone, ammonia and hydrogen sulfide. They also monitor fine particulate matter, PM2.5 and PM10, which can pose risks to human health.
In addition to pollutant levels, the equipment records air temperature, humidity, atmospheric pressure, and wind speed and direction. Measurements are automatically transmitted in real time to the unified geoinformation database of the Environmental Monitoring System.
The project is being implemented under Presidential Decree No. PF-81, which outlines measures to reform the ecology and environmental protection sector and organize the activities of the authorized state body, as well as Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 783.
The system is being developed and installed in cooperation with Malkam Environmental Technologies.
