POLICE in Sevilla are investigating a string of burglaries targeting footballers after thieves broke into the home of Irish striker Troy Parrott while he was playing for Real Betis.
The 24-year-old’s property in the El Zaudin residential estate in Tomares was targeted on Sunday as Betis faced giants Barcelona at the Estadio de La Cartuja.
The break-in is the latest in a series of raids on the homes of high-profile footballers in the Sevilla area, with investigators examining whether the cases could be connected.
Parrott’s Betis team-mate Antony was also targeted in a recent burglary, while former Sevilla goalkeeper Sergio Rico suffered an armed robbery at his home in the past week.
Rico was reportedly at home with his family when masked gunmen entered the property and tied him up.
The Guardia Civil is investigating possible links between the incidents, which have affected homes in the Aljarafe area west of Sevilla.
Investigators are also looking into a businessman from Guillena who is suspected of supplying thieves with sensitive information about the homes of wealthy and high-profile residents.
The spate of burglaries has also brought renewed attention to previous raids involving football stars in the city, including former Sevilla defender Sergio Ramos in 2023 and Betis legends Joaquin Sanchez and William Carvalho, whose homes were targeted on the same day in 2019.
Police have not confirmed whether all the cases are linked.
