The fall bestsellers have been switching up. At least, more than bestsellers typically do from week to week. For starters, Threshing Day by Rebecca Yarros has entered the chat, joining Theo of Golden in appearing on all five lists.
There are a couple of other developments that are a welcome change: there’s American Hagwon by Min Jin Lee (Pachinko). And, though it only made it to two lists (one fewer than we require to make the list), the deluxe edition of Escape Me by Tahereh Mafi showed up on both Publishers Weekly‘s and USA Today’s lists. Verity by Colleen Hoover also rose in rank, no doubt boosted by the film adaptation starring Anne Hathaway.
This list continues to lack diversity on many levels, including being disproportionately by white authors. Some Indie Bestsellers you should know about are The American Way of Killing: The Invention of an Epidemic by Malcolm Gladwell, and the classic All About Love: New Visions by bell hooks.
To get these numbers, we look at The New York Times, both Combined Print & E-Book Fiction and Combined Print & E-Book Nonfiction lists; Amazon Charts, both Fiction and Nonfiction; Publishers Weekly; USA Today; and Indie Bestsellers, Fiction and Nonfiction, both Paperback and Hardcover.
