Former US President Barack Obama touches down in Glasgow for Hydro event

Former US President Barack Obama has touched down in Glasgow as part of a three-date tour.

The 44th President of the United States will host An Evening with President Barack Obama at the OVO Hydro on Wednesday evening.

Glasgow is one of three stops on the tour, along with Manchester on Thursday and an event in Belfast, which took place on Tuesday.

The former president will be discussing the future of America. There is also an opportunity for VIP guests to get a photo taken with the former president.

A police escort was in place at Glasgow Airport as Obama touched down around 3pm on Wednesday.

Excited onlookers gathered to catch a glimpse of the former president, who arrived in a motorcade of several Range Rovers with blacked-out windows.

Among them was 12-year-old Jack who was celebrating his birthday.

“I got binoculars [for my birthday] and I wanted to come down and plane spot,” he told STV News.

“I heard Obama was down here so I can down here for a couple of minutes and I got to see him.

“It was cool.”

Police Scotland said an appropriate policing plan is in place for the event at the Hydro.
