IMPHAL, Oct 22 : The People’s Progressive Alliance Manipur (PPAM) has condemned the killing of Laishram Rakesh of Khangabok Mayai Leikai, Part II, in the recent violent incident at Khangabok–Sangaiyumpham, Thoubal district.
PPAM, in a press note, extended its condolences to the bereaved family and expressed solidarity with all those who have suffered loss, injury, displacement, or damage to their property as a consequence of the incident.
It said that members of PPAM met the communities and JACs of both sides on October 20.
Saying that the loss of an innocent life is deeply distressing and unacceptable, PPAM called upon the competent authorities and law enforcement agencies to conduct a prompt, impartial, and thorough investigation into the killing and ensure that the persons responsible are identified and arrested in accordance with the law.
PPAM expressed concern over the delay in bringing the alleged perpetrator to justice.
Any prolonged delay in the investigation and arrest of the culprit risks deepening public distrust, fuelling rumours and resentment, and escalating tensions between the communities on both sides, it cautioned.
The authorities must therefore act with urgency, transparency, and impartiality, while keeping the public appropriately informed of the progress of the investigation, it said and appealed to the people on both sides to exercise utmost restraint, remain calm, and refrain from retaliatory violence , or any action that could endanger innocent lives.
PPAM further appealed to the representatives of both sides to come together for an urgent, constructive, and peaceful dialogue in the presence of the Government authorities, district administration, and law enforcement agencies.
