Coach Robert Saleh’s Tennessee Titans got their first win of the season in Week 6 as they beat the Colts on a rough day from Cam Ward. Ward was helped out in the passing game by young wide receiver Carnell Tate, who had 70 yards and a touchdown in a 26-20 win.
Tate blew a kiss to his late mother, Ashley Griggs, who was tragically killed in a drive-by shooting in Chicago in 2023. He described how it felt to honor her memory in postgame comments to Turron Davenport of ESPN’s NFL Nation.
“It felt good…I’ve been doing that at the collegiate level, it finally feels good to do it at the NFL level,” Tate said.

He added that Ward has trust in him to make plays, which helped him to have a big day against the Colts. The Titans swarmed Colts QB Daniel Jones, sacking him six times as coach Saleh got his first win in Titans gear. Ward finished with 102 yards, one touchdown and one interception, enough to secure the victory but not much in terms of its impact on the game.
October 25 brings a home game against the Cleveland Browns that the Titans have a great chance to win. The Browns are 4-2 but haven’t exactly overwhelmed their opponents this season, mostly eeking out close wins like their Week 6 victory over the Baltimore Ravens.
If Ward and Tate can remain united in the face of criticism and the Titans defense continues to let loose and have fun, Week 7 could bring another big win for a team in need of lots of them.
