The NFL Players Association (NFLPA) is calling for a thorough investigation into how the NFL handled the situation involving Jalen Hurts, who developed blood clots. They criticized the league for its quick closure of the matter and the lack of a formal review regarding the medical care provided after Hurts played in London, despite an initial calf ultrasound.
As discussions about player safety and accountability continue, the long-term implications for the roster are also under intense scrutiny. A report by ESPN, featuring insights from Dan Graziano and Jeremy Fowler, raised questions about whether Jalen Hurts has a future with the Philadelphia Eagles. Graziano pointed out that while Hurts is signed through 2028, the guaranteed money in his contract decreases to $22 million of his $51.5 million salary in 2027. This situation could create challenges during the offseason, especially as young stars like Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean become eligible for contract extensions.
Fowler emphasized the uncertainty surrounding Hurts’s future, noting that the Eagles did not extend his contract last offseason, despite his impressive 59-28 starting record. This leaves Hurts’s status with the team completely up in the air.

The chaotic situation has drawn sharp criticism from analysts. Sports media personality Nick Kostos recently expressed his discontent with the Eagles’ handling of Hurts’ health on the “Football America” podcast, calling it the most outrageous story he has encountered in his career. He remarked that the franchise is fortunate that the star quarterback did not suffer a fatal incident on the field.
