The female characters in Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s novels have held a special place in Bengali literature and cinema for ages.
When these characters were embodied on the celluloid screen, they left a deep impression on the minds of audience.
This time, actress Raj Ripa will be appearing on screen as Sarat Chandra’s character, ‘Soudamini’.
Dewan Nazmul is making a full-length film titled ‘Shishir Bheja Chokh’ based on famous classic novel ‘Swami’ by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay. Raj Ripa is playing the role of ‘Soudamini’ in this film.
However, like the film, the director has also changed name of the character of ‘Soudamini’. He has given a new name titled ‘Mini’.
The story of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s ‘Swami’ shows the difference between infatuation and true love.
Due to the attraction of childhood love, ‘Soudamini’ leaves her husband Ghanyashyam and marries Narendra.
But after a few days, her mistake is corrected; she realises that her attraction to Narendra was just an infatuation.
On the other hand, the patience, selfless sacrifice and forgiveness of her husband Ghanyashyam were true love.
Through this realisation, the man becomes a true husband in his wife’s mind forever. ‘Swami’ was published in book form in 1942.
The shooting of the movie ‘Shishir Bheja Chokh’ has started in Srinagar, Munshiganj from last October.
Sharing the experience of playing ‘Soudamini’ on screen, Raj Ripa said, “It is a matter of luck for me to come on the big screen as ‘Soudamini’, written by Sharat Chandra.
I don’t know if I will get such a role again. After receiving the offer from the producer, I didn’t miss the opportunity.
I read the story before the shooting started. I tried to understand ‘Soudamini’ from the inside. I am trying to give my best.
The director, seeing my performance on the shooting set, said that he has found the right ‘Soudamini’ for his movie. This is a great achievement for me.”
Director Dewan Nazmul said, “Although this literary work is very old, emotions of the people have not changed.
Although there has been a major transformation in the society through modernity and digital processes, the roots have not changed.
While making the film, I tried to uphold Sharat Chandra without cinematic refinement. His thoughts and reflections can be found in every scene of the film.”
In addition to directing, Dewan Nazmul has written the screenplay, dialogues and songs for the movie ‘Shishir Bheja Chokh’.
Shipon Mitra, Sabbir Ahmed, Shiba Shanu, Shirin Alam, Reshma Ahmed, Bobby, Jackie, etc are also playing various roles in this movie.
