🏈 Former Pittsburgh Steelers head coach and Hall of Famer Bill Cowher paid tribute to his defensive coordinator/linebackers coach when he played at NC State, Chuck Amato. Amato passed away on Monday at the age of 80.

Amato, an Easton, Pa., native, was the DC/linebackers coach at NC State from 1976-79. He also was NC State’s head coach from 2000-06 after serving as a key assistant under Bobby Bowden at Florida State from 1982-1999.

“RIP Coach Amato. Thank you for your influence and guidance in shaping me as a young LB from Western PA coming down to @PackFootball. You showed me tough love when I needed it & taught me Commitment, Sacrifice & Teamwork. You’ll be missed, but your legacy will NEVER be forgotten!” Cowher wrote on X.

Cowher, who played linebacker at NC State from 1975-1978, ranks seventh in school history with 371 career tackles and holds the single-season record with 195 tackles set in 1978.
