The New York Jets are back in business. Geno Smith and company prevented a four-game losing skid after successfully thwarting the visiting Cleveland Browns in a game on Sunday at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Running back Braelon Allen’s rushing score late in the fourth quarter proved to be the answer for New York, as the Jets came away with a 12-10 victory.
But a story about this win by New York can’t be told completely without mentioning the exploits of rookie defensive end David Bailey.
The former Texas Tech Red Raiders defensive standout was a key figure in New York’s success in locking down Cleveland’s attack. He had three of the Jets’ eight sacks on Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, while also adding seven total tackles and four quarterback hits.
The 23-year-old Bailey didn’t do much on the field in the first four weeks, but he silenced his doubters on Sunday with an incredible performance the Jets hope will set the tone for him the rest of the campaign.
Jets Rookie Bailey Admits Being Away From Social Media
If there were criticism online about his slow start to the season, Bailey wouldn’t have known it via social media.
“I’m not really on social media, so I can’t really speak on what was said,” Bailey said after the game, via Rich Cimini of ESPN.
It might be a good time for Bailey to get on social media given the flowers people are giving him after his showing versus the Browns.
Cimini also added that the five sacks Bailey has so far in the 2026 NFL season is tied for most by any player during his first five games in the NFL over the last decade.
The Jets, who selected Bailey second overall in the 2026 NFL Draft, will want to see him perform at a high level again in Week 6 against AFC East rivals New England Patriots in Foxborough.
