The United Arab Emirates has announced plans for a further €15 billion investment in Greece, as Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan met Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Athens.

The announcement was made on Thursday, October 22, during Sheikh Khaled’s official visit to Greece and builds on a joint investment initiative launched by the two countries in May 2022, initially valued at €4 billion.
According to the Abu Dhabi Media Office, the initiative has already supported major transactions in strategic sectors, including energy and healthcare.
The expanded investment plan is intended to deepen economic ties between the two countries, with further opportunities expected across key industries and emerging technologies.
Energy, Infrastructure and Technology in Focus
During their meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office, Sheikh Khaled and Mitsotakis discussed ways to strengthen cooperation across energy, infrastructure, healthcare and advanced technology.
The discussions reflect the growing economic partnership between Athens and Abu Dhabi, with both countries seeking to expand investment and develop long-term commercial relationships.
The UAE described the initiative as a reflection of mutual trust and confidence in Greece’s economic potential, strategic location and role as a gateway connecting European markets with regional and international economies.
The investment framework is also intended to support sustainable economic growth and improve the competitiveness of both countries.
Greece and UAE Strengthen Strategic Partnership
Beyond economic cooperation, Sheikh Khaled and Mitsotakis exchanged views on regional and international developments, highlighting the importance of security, peace and stability.
Sheikh Khaled was welcomed at Athens International Airport by Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis upon his arrival, according to the UAE’s state news agency, WAM.
The visit underscores the growing importance of Greece-UAE relations, combining investment opportunities with broader strategic cooperation at a time of heightened geopolitical uncertainty across the eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East.
The proposed €15 billion investment would represent a significant expansion of the existing bilateral investment framework, although details of individual projects, funding commitments and implementation timelines were not specified in the announcement.
