Zeki Amdouni is facing more than a month on the sidelines with an ankle injury, adding to Burnley’s growing fitness concerns.
The forward is now set for a spell out as Nicky Hayen continues to manage a squad already dealing with several absences.
There was also frustration over Dastan Satpayev, with Hayen revealing Chelsea prevented the loanee from featuring in the draw with Charlton Athletic as his workload continues to be carefully managed following injury.
The 18-year-old had made his return from a lengthy absence with 20 minutes off the bench in Burnley’s 4-0 win over Watford, his first appearance since the 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough in early September.
But Satpayev was then left out of the squad against Charlton on the instruction of his parent club.
“No, we were not allowed with Chelsea,” Hayen said.
“So Chelsea didn’t allow him to play because he had a big injury and they were managing the load together with our medical team, but they told us that he couldn’t play today.
“He was out for a long time. He’s still in Chelsea, it’s a collaboration between Chelsea and our medical staff, but they decided he can’t play tonight.
“He’s going to play on Friday [against Wolves], but for now it’s Chelsea who decided he can’t play tonight.”
Hayen admitted the situation was frustrating but acknowledged it was part of the loan arrangement.
“Yeah, but it’s also part of the deal that if they’re injured they go to their medical team and work together with our medical team, so we knew,” he said.
“Of course it’s unfortunate, because when you saw Dastan also coming on at Watford, you have another threat.
“It’s a different player than Andreas [Hountondji] to come on. Even more depth, more speed, more technical ability.
“Now Dastan can’t play and every week it’s something different. But we keep working really hard and it’s Friday, it’s a new game.”
