The Rawalpindi divisional administration has directed the Communication and Works Department to complete two underpasses on Peshawar Road by November 2026, as construction on the Rs. 8 billion projects reaches approximately 60% completion.
Commissioner Rawalpindi Salman Ghani issued the instructions during a visit to the construction sites at Race Course Chowk and Charing Cross, where he reviewed progress and asked officials to maintain the pace of work without compromising quality.
The superintending engineer of Highway Circle No. 1 briefed the commissioner on the projects, saying workers had completed major structural tasks, including piling, deck slabs, and capping beams. Construction teams are now working on barriers, excavation, utility relocation, drainage systems, and road development.
The Race Course Underpass will have two lanes for northbound traffic, along with three-level road lanes to facilitate movement and turning. The Charing Cross Underpass will serve southbound traffic and feature two underpass lanes alongside two-level road lanes. Authorities are also rehabilitating and widening the road between Bungalow No. 276 and Raffay Mall.
The administration is shifting utility services underground to reduce roadside obstructions and improve traffic flow. Ghani also directed officials to maintain effective traffic management, provide alternative routes, and implement anti-smog measures to control dust and air pollution at construction sites.
