The Thanjavur District Police have banned the display of flex banners and wall posters in public places in connection with the ‘Sathaya Vizha’ to commemorate the 1041th birth anniversary of Great Emperor Raja Raja Cholan in Thanjavur on October 22.
Disclosing this to the press on Thursday, the Superintendent of Police, E.Sundaravathanam, directed the associations celebrating the birth anniversary of the Great Emperor not to put up flex banners or pasting of wall posters claiming that Raja Raja Chola belongs to their community.
As this practice led to unwarranted incidents in the past, the associations were banned from displaying banners and posters this year.
Any association or individuals violating this fiat would be brought to book and stern action be initiated against the printing press where such materials were generated.
The associations who have applied for allotment of time to garland the Great Emperor’s statue were advised to adhere to the time allotted to them and any activities that disturb public peace would attract legal actions, he added.
