Amy Winehouse's greatest fear, revealed in an interview that never saw the light of day

Amy Winehouse's legacy goes beyond her greatest hits, her concerts, and a powerful voice. Her fans still remember each of her songs, as well as her reflections on life. But they did not know about a 2007 interview that now, almost two decades later, the Sunday Times has revealed worldwide, and in it, the artist spoke about her concern and greatest fear.

At that time, Winehouse was only 23 years old and had married Blake Fielder Civil, and “Back to Black” was still fresh in people’s minds. In her statements, the singer recalled how she was discovered at 16 in a jazz club in London and also claimed that she would have been able to live peacefully without having achieved fame.

Winehouse and her revealing phrase about her legacy

“When I was younger, yes. The idea of dying without having left a mark was my greatest fear. I know I’m only 23 years old,” Winehouse said in that interview, in a sentence that has reminded many of what happened just four years later.

On July 23, 2011, when she was 27 years old, the young artist was found dead. Since then, her legacy has been unique, proving that the fear she had never came true. Her tragic death, 15 years later, has not erased her music, and her songs are still being played.

She herself, in that interview, made it clear that after the work she had done and her recent success, she was at peace with whatever might happen in the future. “Things have gone well for me, you know? I’ve just recorded an album that I’m very proud of. If I die tomorrow, then great,” Winehouse said after ‘Back to Black’ topped all the charts. In fact, 20 years later it still remains among the biggest successes of the 21st century thanks to its artist’s privileged voice.
