A farm worker identified as Selvaganapathi, 31, was found dead with multiple injuries on his body, which was lying in a water tank in Seithur police station limits in Virudhunagar district.
Police said on Wednesday that the incident had happened on Tuesday and preliminary inquiries revealed that Selvaganapathi of Mariamman Temple Street, Sundararajapuram lived with his wife Chandralekha and a two-year-old child.
On Tuesday, he had gone to work, but never returned home. Fearing trouble, when Chandralekha informed the police, a search was launched. The body was found near Maraneri tank, police said. DSP Ramesh and Inspector Vijaykumar inspected the scene of crime. The body was sent for post mortem.
According to a senior officer, an armed gang had murdered the farm worker and the motive behind the heinous crime was being examined.
