Police have filed a general diary (GD) over an altercation between independent MP Barrister Rumeen Farhana and Sarail Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monzur Kader Bhuiyan at the police station in Brahmanbaria.
The GD was filed over the incident and came to light last night (23 October).
OC Monzur Kader Bhuiyan declined to share details of the GD. However, sources said police were gathering information about those who accompanied Rumeen Farhana to the police station during the incident.
Confirming the information, Brahmanbaria Additional Superintendent of Police (Administration and Finance) Mohammad Arafatul Islam said, "It is not a complaint. We file a GD whenever a significant incident occurs."
The incident took place on Thursday night (22 October) at Sarail Police Station, when Rumeen Farhana questioned the OC over alleged irregularities and corruption, as well as the lack of police security during her visits to Durga Puja mandaps.
According to sources, Rumeen Farhana had requested police security while visiting Durga Puja mandaps, but the OC did not arrange it. She went to the police station around 8pm on Thursday to question him over the lack of security and alleged irregularities and corruption, remaining in his office until around 9pm.
During the meeting, a man accompanying her accused the OC of taking Tk30,000 from him as a bribe. The OC denied the allegation, claiming Rumin Farhana had coached the man to make it.
During the argument, Rumeen Farhana told the OC, "You were a prominent Awami League man. I know your history, sir. Anyway, I am not concerned about that."
Denying the allegations, OC Monzur Kader Bhuiyan told journalists that Rumin Farhana had arrived at the police station with hundreds of people and created a disturbance. He also alleged that she had coached some of them to make baseless accusations against him.
"She said I take money from brick kilns. All the brick kilns in the haor areas are underwater," he said.
The OC said police had ensured security across the entire police station area during Durga Puja, but assigning a dedicated team to accompany the MP had been difficult.
