Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders is back in action this season, and he and the rest of the team will take on the Buffalo Bills on Sunday. But ahead of the game, Crosby has been slapped with some bad news.
Crosby isn't known for always playing by the rules, so it's expected that at least once in a while, he gets hit with some form of NFL punishment. Now, he's being fined for actions taken during the team's loss to the New England Patriots on Oct. 11.
Each week, the NFL hands out punishments in the form of fines to players who break the rules in the prior weekend's games. The goal is to keep the sport safe and make sure everyone plays by the same rules. "The rules are intended to protect the players from unnecessary risk, promote player safety and emphasize sportsmanship and respect of teammates, opponents, coaches, officials and fans," the NFL states on its official website.
Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders receives the largest NFL fine of the week for unnecessary roughness
The NFL has officially handed out its Week 5 punishments, and it's fined the star defensive end $23,882 for unnecessary roughness involving the use of the helmet at 11:23 in the first quarter of the game. That number was the largest fine handed out by the NFL for the entire week.
Following Patriots quarterback Drake Maye throwing a 35-yard touchdown pass, Crosby was penalized for dead-ball unnecessary roughness when the team made the extra-point attempt. Video review showed that he illegally used his helmet during that post-play event, so that's why the NFL is issuing him the fine.
So, it's time for Crosby to pay up, but he's no newbie, so he knows how this goes.
