Ryan Garcia vs. Floyd Mayweather is happening, and it’s going to be a real fight, according to the WBC welterweight champion.
After rumors circulated on social media of the two going to meet in the boxing ring, Garcia claimed on X that they will be fighting for his welterweight championship.
“Trust me at first I thought this was bull***,” Garcia wrote on social media.
“But it’s real. Floyd and I agree to a fight 147 for the WBC welterweight championship of the world. 50-0 vs The current champ,” Garcia wrote on X.

Garcia went on to provide more information about his upcoming fight with Mayweather by posting a photo of the two of them facetiming each other, with the caption, “Just got off the phone with @floydmayweather,” Garcia wrote. “Talking about fighting – it’s real and he wants to do a real fight 147. He and I both agreed to post this! Let’s Rumble 🥊👊”
He then went on to comment on his post and claim that they will be fighting for “the 147 WBC world championship.”
“I made that very clear and Floyd and I agreed to fight.”
Darshan Desai of Uncrowned reported that an unnamed source told him, “no serious negotiations for Garcia vs Mayweather have taken place at the time of this writing.”
The build-up of Garcia vs Mayweather began earlier this month when the Welterweight champion called out the International Boxing Hall of Famer on X by writing, “Okay Floyd let’s see how much you love that “0”🤔😤”
Garcia went on to say that he didn’t want to do an exhibition fight against him by writing, “I want his 0 on the f—ing line. How much does he actually think he got left.”
“I’m ready Floyd, remember you made this call. I’m just returning the favor. Offer is on the table. Accept or not, if not I move forward as I have been.”
While the Victorville native has been busy publicly calling his opponent out on social media, Mayweather has not responded.
Mayweather has a perfect 50-0 record with 27 knockouts and has not fought professionally since 2017, when he knocked out Conor McGregor.
Garcia has blossomed into one of the sport’s more promising young stars.
At 28 years old, Garcia has an impressive 26-2 record, with 21 knockouts, and is coming off back-to-back wins by beating Mario Barrios in February by a unanimous decision.
Last September, he and Conor Benn met in the ring at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, where he won via knockout.
