KARACHI: The body of Zainul Abideen, a young man who was abducted after returning from Saudi Arabia to meet his parents, has been recovered from Steel Town, police said on Friday.
According to police, the victim’s cousin Faisal and his friend were involved in the murder. Both suspects have been arrested, and the body was recovered on their identification.
Police said Faisal confessed to killing Zainul Abideen during interrogation. The suspects allegedly placed the body in a sack and dumped it at a deserted location. A piece of yellow cloth was tied around the sack, police added.
According to the victim’s father, Zainul Abideen left home on a motorcycle on October 14 but did not return. After searching for him without success, his father registered a kidnapping case at Steel Town police station.
The father said his son worked as a tailor in Saudi Arabia and had returned to Pakistan to meet his parents.
After the abduction, the family received a phone call from the kidnappers, who demanded Rs700,000 in ransom. The father said the family took the money to the location specified by the kidnappers, but nobody was there.
He also said the suspects left his son’s slippers and mobile phone outside the house and threatened to kill him.
Police said that during the initial investigation, officers visited the location identified by the kidnappers and recovered a severed hand. The hand was sent for DNA testing, while investigators also examined the case on technical grounds.
Police have now recovered the victim’s body following the arrest of the two suspects. The investigation is continuing.
