The Federal Constitutional Court (FCC) ordered the reinstatement of 123 Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) candidates who were removed from their jobs following a paper leak case.
A two-member bench comprising Chief Justice Ameen-ud-Din Khan and Justice Ali Baqar Najfi accepted all petitions filed by the affected candidates and rejected the PPSC’s position in the case.
During the hearing, the candidates’ lawyer informed the court that his clients had passed the PPSC examinations and were already working in various government departments. They had also received four months’ salaries before being removed from their positions.
The lawyer argued that the PPSC withdrew its appointment recommendations based on a source report, even though the paper leak issue only came to light after the candidates had cleared their examinations.
The bench also questioned the action taken against PPSC officials involved in the paper leak. The commission’s lawyer informed the court that four officials had been dismissed over the matter.
The candidates’ lawyer further pointed out that his clients were removed without receiving show-cause notices or being given an opportunity to defend themselves.
After hearing the arguments, the court ruled in favor of the candidates and restored their positions.
