The camp of Seyi Makinde, the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) presidential candidate, has claimed that President Bola Tinubu could lose in 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) during the 2027 presidential election.
The group attributed its prediction to what it described as growing public dissatisfaction with the economic situation in the country, arguing that hardship could undermine Tinubu’s bid for a second term.
The position was contained in a statement issued on Saturday by Richard Ihediwa, Director of Strategic Communications for Makinde’s camp, Naija News reports.
According to the statement, the states where the group believes Makinde could defeat Tinubu are Rivers, Oyo, Kaduna, Plateau, Borno, Enugu, Bauchi, Sokoto, Delta, Kano, Adamawa and Lagos, alongside the FCT.
The APM camp argued that Tinubu’s planned visits to the listed states would not necessarily change voters’ positions or reverse what it described as growing opposition to his administration.
It maintained that the President would have to contend with citizens’ concerns over the cost of living and other economic challenges rather than rely on political engagements to secure support.
The group also accused Tinubu and members of his inner circle of displaying what it described as political arrogance, which it claimed had further fuelled public dissatisfaction.
However, the group’s claims about the President’s prospects in the listed states represent its political assessment ahead of the election, rather than an established electoral outcome.
Group Accuses Tinubu Government Of Wasteful Spending
Makinde’s camp further criticised the administration’s spending priorities, alleging that trillions of naira had been committed to wasteful programmes and projects while many Nigerians continued to grapple with rising living costs.

It argued that the economic difficulties experienced by citizens could influence their decisions at the ballot box in 2027.
“Mr President should know that his visit to these states, if he eventually does, will not in any way change the direction or the determination of the people to vote him out,” the statement said.
The group also challenged Tinubu to proceed with the planned visits and engage directly with voters in the affected states.
“We challenge President Tinubu not to have a change of mind but visit the states to face the people,” it added.
