What Does the PhD Scholarship Cover?
UBC provides eligible full-time PhD students with at least CAD 40,000 annually for the first four years. The university introduced this minimum funding policy in September 2026.
Students can receive financial support through internal and external scholarships, research assistantships, teaching assistantships, and graduate academic assistantships.
The funding package can provide a minimum of CAD 160,000 over four years. However, it combines different funding sources rather than offering one separate scholarship worth that amount.
Tuition Fees for International Students
According to UBC’s published tuition information, international PhD students pay approximately CAD 10,081.65 per year. Domestic students pay CAD 5,738.52 annually.
Students must also pay additional university fees of approximately CAD 1,203.20 per year.
Eligible international students can receive an International Tuition Award of up to CAD 3,200 annually. The award reduces their tuition expenses but does not automatically cover the full amount.
Students generally pay tuition and other fees from their funding packages unless they receive separate tuition support. The university reviews tuition rates annually, so the amounts may change before the September 2027 intake.
