Disney+ and Hulu have officially picked up a series order of Ryan Murphy’s Glee reboot.
Murphy first revealed the possibility of a revival in July when he expressed his continued love for the musical series during an interview with People. By September, Murphy announced a finished script, alongside confirmation that he’s already spoken to “about 10 or so” original cast members about returning. While the series order announcement didn't initially reveal any casting news, original cast members like Lea Michele and Heather Morris have since confirmed their involvement.
Gleeks are reacting strongly to the news: “This is the best worst day of my life,” commented one fan. “This is gonna be so bad! I’m so happy and can’t wait,” said another.

Why the complicated feelings? Well, in the words of one dedicated Gleek account, “No one is more against this reboot than Gleeks because we all remember its excruciating devolution into insanity.”
While the early seasons of Glee were as critically acclaimed as they were popular, later seasons relied on shock plot lines while struggling to balance a rotating cast of characters. Murphy himself has developed quite the reputation for occasional tone deafness, most recently on display in the true crime Netflix series Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story, with an imagined ending that treats the serial killer series as some kind of MCU multiverse.
Fans’ primary concern, however? Whether we'll see a full reunion of the original cast. One fan argues that “a Glee revival with no cast announced is just a really expensive school choir.”
Some fans have particularly strong opinions on who exactly from the original cast is worth bringing back: “They need to go to Jane Lynch and offer her 1 billion dollars to return because thats the only way this is going to have a chance to work.” Lynch, who played the sardonic cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester, won an Emmy for the role in 2010.
The overwhelming majority of Gleeks have gathered in the comment sections of the announcement to pay tribute to the original cast members, arguing against bringing the series back without them. Per one fan, “Glee without Naya is like earth without water.” Rivera, who played fan-favorite Cheerio Santana Lopez, passed away in a tragic accident in 2020.
Fans also express concern over the reboot potentially “re-evaluating” some of the canon arcs from the original show, particularly the show’s groundbreaking queer relationships. “Don’t touch Brittana,” and “Don’t touch Klaine” are common refrains in the replies.
Still, some fans have a lot to gain from the show’s return. Popular X gimmick account Terri Schuester Updates, which has been consistently active since the show’s cancellation, was quick to recognize what this update means for their own career: “Wait, does this mean I might finally have some actual Terri Schuester updates?”
Other fans are already theorizing about what music will make its way into the reboot, pitching recent breakout popstars like Olivia Rodrigo and Chappell Roan. One particularly popular post jokingly takes a more simplistic stance on the reboot as a whole: “We’re about to get soooo many more songs to say 'they sang this on Glee' to, and that’s really what life is all about.”
Will that be enough reason for fans to tune into the reboot on Disney+? We’ll have to wait and see.
