A Kruger National Park safari can be surprisingly affordable, particularly if you stay at one of the park’s public camps and drive yourself.
But international visitors pay a higher daily conservation fee than South African citizens and residents, so it’s worth understanding the costs before booking.
How much is the Kruger National Park entry fee for foreigners?
From 1 November 2026, an international adult will pay R692 per day to enter Kruger National Park.
Children aged 2 to 11 will pay R345 per day, while children under two are free.
For comparison, South African citizens and residents will pay R140 per adult, while other SADC nationals will pay R296 under the new 2026/27 tariff.
| Visitor | 2026/27 daily conservation fee |
|---|---|
| International adult | R692 |
| International child (2–11) | R345 |
| SADC adult | R296 |
| SADC child | R147 |
| South African adult/resident | R140 |
| South African child/resident | R70 |
This daily fee of R692 can translate to:
| Currency | *Approx. cost per adult, per day |
|---|---|
| 🇺🇸 US dollar (USD) | $41 |
| 🇬🇧 British pound (GBP) | £31 |
| 🇪🇺 Euro (EUR) | €37 |
| 🇦🇺 Australian dollar (AUD) | A$59 |
| 🇨🇦 Canadian dollar (CAD) | C$58 |
| 🇨🇭 Swiss franc (CHF) | CHF 34 |
*Exchange rate correct at the time of publication.
These rates apply from 1 November 2026 to 31 October 2027.
The conservation fee is charged per person, per day, so two international adults staying for three nights would pay R4 152 in conservation fees alone.
Accommodation is extra
The conservation fee does not include accommodation. Kruger has a wide range of options, from campsites and basic huts to bungalows, safari tents and more upmarket accommodation.
SANParks’ main rest camps generally have facilities such as electricity, shops, restaurants or cafeterias and petrol stations, although the exact facilities vary by camp.
Accommodation prices also vary according to the camp, accommodation type and date, so there isn’t one single “Kruger price” for international visitors.
For example, camping can be one of the cheapest ways to stay inside the park, while luxury lodges and private concessions can cost thousands of rand per person per night.
What would a budget trip cost?
For two international adults, a three-night self-drive camping trip can be relatively affordable once you’re inside South Africa.
Using a campsite starting around R390 per night for two people as an example, the accommodation would be roughly R1 170 for three nights, before the 1% community fund and any additional charges.
The three-night conservation fee for two adults would be R4 152 from November 2026.
That puts the basic park costs at roughly R5 300 for two people for three nights, before food, fuel, car hire and getting to Kruger.
Actual accommodation prices vary by date and camp, so this should be treated as an example rather than a fixed package price.
If camping isn’t your thing, there are plenty of middle-ground options. SANParks offers huts, safari tents and bungalows, as well as more upmarket accommodation. Some bungalows have their own bathrooms and kitchen facilities, while others use communal facilities.
This means visitors don’t have to choose between sleeping in a tent and booking an expensive private lodge.
Your accommodation and conservation fee aren’t the only costs, though. International visitors should also budget for things like car hire, fuel, food and drinks, guided game drives or bush walks, flights or transfers to Kruger, and travel insurance.
