For a long time, I've steered clear of coating my skin with radiance boosting glow givers. Unbelievable? Hear me out. While the beauty world's collective holy grail has long been the pursuit of a healthy looking glow, as someone who struggles with acne prone skin, I can't think of anything worse than highlighting my texture and bumps with sheeny products that run the risk of over-exposure. But I've recently learnt that there is in fact a way to make even problematic skin subtly gleam in all the right ways.
The world of K-beauty knows a thing or two about innovative formulations and gentle efficacious ingredients, and Mamonde’s Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask, £19, is a clear example of Korea's agenda setting beauty directive. Dubbed a pioneering 'sheet mask in a bottle,' the inimitable skin hero is certainly well-loved. It comes with a 4.9-star rating at Boots and one bottle is sold every minute worldwide.
What is the Mamonde Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask?
It comes with the backing of the K-beauty brand's 35 year long botanical research which has helped spearhead its proprietary Hyper Flora™ technology. Combining flower-derived botanical actives with advanced skin science, Mamonde's bedrock is all about high-performance formulas intended to lend smooth, plump and luminous skin, or in other words glass skin.
The Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask taps into that foundation with a blend of 10% PHA, rose peptide and multiple types of hyaluronic acid, which work to gently slough through dead skin cells, deliver deep hydration, and visibly refine skin with a fresh glow that looks built in.
Interestingly, the name of the product is deceptive. It does away with a traditional understanding of illuminating face masks and replaces the skincare staple with a daily essential that can be used in multiple ways to prep skin. Use it as a mask, toner or serum, just after cleansing day and night to lay the foundation of your skincare routine for an underlying layer of hydration that lets a subtle glow seep through as if it its always been there.
There's little wonder why this 'mask' has earned true K-Beauty cult status, ranked the No.1 product on Olive Young Korea’s online platform, the hype speaks for itself.
Our verdict
Sameeha Shaikh, beauty writer, says: 'I was inclined to try this for a number of reasons. Chief was its reputation for being a "sheet mask in bottle". As someone who dreads the chore of sitting around waiting for something wet and jelly-like on my skin to turn stiff, the idea of a liquid mask seemed a welcome treat. What I found is that the Flora Glow Rose Liquid Mask goes way beyond what its name suggests. A true multitasker, I've used it in multiple ways, as an essence, toner, serum, and yes even as a mask (just apply a bit more than usual before working it into the skin manually), and found each medium works wonders. My skin looks instantly more radiant but not in a way that accentuates my acne, instead the glow looks healthy and lit-from-within. It has indeed replaced my sporadic sheet mask sessions thanks to ease and the fact that it gently works to refine the texture of skin over time. My only gripe is just how liquidy the formula is, it runs just like water, which means you need to be careful how you apply it. Outside of that, I'm pleased to finally be able to enjoy glowing skin.'
