Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) – The 52nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) officially opened in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, on Saturday, October 17, 2026. Convening under the banner of advancing regional solidarity, peace, and sustainable development, the two-day summit brings together diplomatic delegations representing 55 member states and observer nations.
The spokesperson for the 52nd ministerial session, Ambassador Hassanein Kamil, announced in a formal statement that proceedings commenced following the arrival of all participating international delegations in Baghdad.
The commencement follows an announcement by the Iraqi Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday confirming the completion of all logistical, technical, and security arrangements required to host the high-profile multilateral convention, which runs through October 17–18.
Baghdad’s stewardship of the OIC foreign ministers’ summit reinforces Iraq’s proactive diplomatic posture aimed at bridging regional divides and serving as a neutral convening hub for dialogue.
Ministerial agendas across the two-day meetings are set to address collective security frameworks, cross-border economic integration, humanitarian response mechanisms, and coordinated diplomatic strategies to de-escalate ongoing conflicts across the wider Islamic world.
