Vice-President Kashim Shettima has accused Peter Obi, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, of making “bogus claims” about winning the election without presenting evidence to support his assertion.
Shettima made the remarks on Wednesday at the inauguration of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja.
The vice-president also cautioned against adopting economic policies from other countries without considering Nigeria’s population, economic structure, institutions and peculiar circumstances.

He cited Bangladesh as an example, arguing that policies that worked there could not be transplanted directly to Nigeria without appropriate adjustments.
“What succeeds in Bangladesh cannot simply be transplanted to Nigeria without accounting for the differences in our populations, economic structures, institutions and national circumstances,” he said.
Shettima added that a country with more than 250 million people could not be governed using borrowed statistics and economic prescriptions detached from its realities.
“I respect Peter Obi, but he has gone beyond his mastery of philosophy to make bogus claims about winning the 2023 presidential election without adducing a shred of evidence,” he said.
