KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 19 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim congratulated national para track cyclist Zuhairie Ahmad Tarmizi for winning Malaysia’s first gold medal at the 2026 Asian Para Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
Anwar said Zuhairie’s achievement was made even sweeter by the fact that the athlete also broke the Games record during the qualifying round.
“Congratulations and well done, Zuhairie Ahmad Tarmizi. This is a proud start, as you have won the country’s first gold medal in the Men’s C4-C5 1,000m Time Trial at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Para Games.
“Keep pedalling and achieve even greater success. All Malaysians are proud of you,” he posted on X today.
Zuhairie secured Malaysia’s first gold medal at the Games after winning the men’s C4-C5 (physical impairment) 1,000-metre (m) time trial final at the Izu Velodrome earlier today.
Zuhairie, competing in the C5 category, clocked a time of one minute 5.361 seconds for Malaysia’s first gold medal of the Games. — Bernama
