Unimart has launched an initiative covering more than 3,500 essential products, passing operational savings on to customers and accepting lower profit margins to make everyday shopping more affordable.
The initiative, "Your comfort, our joy", combines operational improvements, direct sourcing and reduced margins on selected essentials to offer more competitive prices, according to the press release.
The retailer said the measures were designed to ease household shopping costs while maintaining product quality and service standards.
Unimart Chief Executive Officer Gazi Mahfuzur Rahman said, "In the current market environment, the cost of everyday essentials has become an important consideration for households. We believe standing by our customers means more than ensuring quality products and services. It also means making a genuine effort to ease the cost of their daily shopping. Through "Your comfort, our joy", we want to translate that commitment into meaningful value for the people who place their trust in us."
The initiative includes changes to daily operations intended to reduce costs and waste. Unimart is optimising resource use and improving energy management, including making greater use of natural daylight at its outlets and operating air conditioning more efficiently to reduce electricity consumption.
The retailer is also expanding direct sourcing to reduce reliance on intermediaries and lower procurement costs.
Unimart said direct sourcing would give it greater oversight of product quality and authenticity, supported by quality controls throughout sourcing, storage and handling.
Alongside these operational savings, the company is accepting lower profit margins on selected everyday essentials. It said the combination of cost savings, more efficient sourcing and margin adjustments would enable competitive pricing across more than 3,500 products while maintaining quality.
Employees, partner brands and suppliers are supporting the initiative, working together to improve value for customers and maintain consistent product and service standards.
Unimart said the programme reflected its efforts to respond to customers' changing needs and ensure that improvements in business efficiency translated into tangible savings for shoppers.
