The Special Response Battalion (SRB)-9 has strengthened security across the Sylhet division ahead of the Durga Puja festival, deploying more than 400 personnel to ensure the safety of puja.
Commander Md Tazminur Rahman Chowdhury, head of SRB-9, shared the information on Sunday while visiting the Trinayani Sarbojanin Puja Mandap at Masudighir Par in Sylhet city.
Regular patrols, cyber surveillance and striking reserve teams have also been put in place to respond to emergencies.
He said Durga Puja is being celebrated at 634 puja mandaps across Sylhet district and the metropolitan area this year.
To ensure the peaceful celebration of the festival and maintain overall security, SRB-9 is working in coordination with the district administration, police, Ansar and other relevant law enforcement agencies and administrative bodies.
A control room has been established to respond promptly to any untoward incidents.
Continuous cyber surveillance is also being conducted to prevent attempts to disrupt communal harmony through rumours or misinformation on social media.
Striking reserve teams remain on standby to reach any location quickly and take necessary action in an emergency.
The SRB-9 commander emphasised that, alongside strengthened security measures, cooperation from all stakeholders is essential for the peaceful celebration of Durga Puja.
