The rally, which will be held at the Parc des Princes in Paris’s 16th arrondissement, will require a robust security operation and a large police presence. This comes as French police face heavy pressure following recent protests across the country, which have included violence and looting. More than 2,000 people have been arrested.
After an emergency meeting with senior French government officials, Interior Minister Laurent Nuñez said that, given the current situation, the possibility of canceling planned events, including football matches, had been discussed.
But this does not apply to tomorrow's match between PSG and FC Barcelona, Laurent Nuñez said.
He also said that other European cup matches would go ahead as planned, including Wednesday’s Champions League match between Lille and Galatasaray.
Laurent Nuñez’s own request to resign was rejected by staff at the Élysée Palace. The reason given was that steady leadership was needed in the current situation.
