A 27-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman from Scarborough, allegedly linked to distraction thefts in Canada, including one against a senior in Barrie, Ont., earlier in the summer, have been arrested and charged in Winnipeg.

Barrie police say the duo were taken into custody in July, and the investigation extended to Windsor, Ont., where local police found a significant amount of jewelry while executing a search warrant at an address there.
It’s alleged the pair had travelled across the country, carrying out distraction thefts in various places, including against a 75-year-old man in Barrie in late June.
Barrie cops say the two and their vehicle allegedly matched the suspects’ and vehicle descriptions in connection with the June 28 distraction theft on Lay St.
Victim was on his driveway when he was allegedly robbed
Police say the victim was standing on his driveway when a late-model, dark coloured SUV pulled up with a male driver and a female passenger, the latter described as having gold teeth began speaking to him.
Cops say during the conversation, the female suspect offered him a necklace which she placed around his neck, and allegedly stole the gold necklace he was wearing which had his wedding ring attached.
Police say the senior didn’t realize any theft had happened until the suspect vehicle had driven away.
Among the recovered jewelry in Windsor, Ont., were the stolen necklace and wedding ring which were returned to the victim on Oct. 11 by Barrie Police.
Authorities believe there may be more victims and anyone who believes they or someone they know may have been a theft victim involving these two suspects is encouraged to contact the lead investigator via email at 7430@barriepolice.ca.
