KOTA BHARU: A General Operations Force (GOF) officer suffered a broken right arm after the four-wheel-drive vehicle he was driving collided with a car driven by a man suspected of being a drug dealer.
The crash occurred following a two-kilometre car chase in Jalan Pekan Lama Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas.
Southeast Brigade commander Radzi Hussain said the 35-year-old suspect was believed to have attempted to evade an inspection by the 9th Battalion Strike Force team.
He said three other GOF officers were unharmed.
“The suspect was arrested after the Toyota Camry he was driving became immobilised. An inspection found six bottles containing a dark-coloured liquid suspected to be codeine,” he said when contacted.
Radzi said before the incident, the operations team received information about drug trafficking activities utilising courier services to deliver drugs to several states in Peninsular Malaysia and Sarawak.
He said at 1.30pm, the team inspected a courier company's premises in Rantau Panjang and found six plastic packages believed to contain drugs, comprising 70g of cannabis buds, 10 units of cannabis oil and 3kg of compressed cannabis.
Following the discovery, the operations team conducted patrols and came across the Toyota Camry driven by the suspect.
The total value of the seized drugs is estimated at RM10,000, and the case has been referred to the Pasir Mas police headquarters for further investigation.
