If you’ve already powered through the new season of The Diplomat and want more, more, more, you are in the right place! The Netflix series seems to get bigger and better with each new season. Here’s what we know about the possibility of The Diplomat season 5.
The fourth season of The Diplomat focuses more on the new-ish-ly inaugurated U.S. President Grace Penn and First Gentleman Hal Penn, played by The West Wing alumni Allison Janney and Bradley Whitford. (The showrunner, Debora Cahn, was a writer and producer on The West Wing, after all.) Both of those actors were promoted to series regulars this season along with Nana Mensah, who plays Grace’s Chief of Staff Billie Appiah. The country is on the verge of war, as well. Will it keep going? Here’s what we know.
Was The Diplomat officially renewed for season 5?
There’s no news yet about whether or not The Diplomat has been renewed for another season. I’ll say this: The Diplomat is an acclaimed series with a decent fanbase. It has been a mainstay at major television awards over the last few years and has even won a few trophies. I would be shocked if this show was canceled without getting the official “final season” treatment. If this show is ending, I’d like to think we’d know by now.
What could The Diplomat season 5 be about?
That’s going to depend on what happens in season 4, doesn’t it? The Diplomat is certainly not scared of a game-changing cliffhanger. The show will continue to be about world politics and the powerful people, particularly in the United States and the United Kingdom, who pull the strings. Maybe they’ll cast some more West Wing alum and add more new characters. I’d love to see Dulé Hill on a show like this—and that’s just one suggestion!
When would The Diplomat season 5 premiere on Netflix?
Season 1 of The Diplomat dropped on April 20, 2023. Season 2 arrived just over a year later, on October 31, 2024. Season 3 and Season 4 stuck to spooky season with October 16, 2025, and October 15, 2026, release dates, respectively. So if the show is renewed for season 5, we must hope that it drops on Netflix at some time in October next year, 2027. Don’t lose that streak!
