The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) has revised the date for Pakistan’s transition to e-passports, with the nationwide rollout now scheduled to begin on October 23 instead of October 15, 2026.
Under the revised policy, passport offices across Pakistan and Pakistani diplomatic missions abroad will issue only e-passports to applicants seeking new passports from October 23.
The change has been confirmed in public notices issued by Pakistani diplomatic missions, including the Consulate General of Pakistan in New York, which announced the revised date on October 14.

The Embassy of Pakistan in Doha has also issued an updated schedule, stating that it will begin issuing e-passports on October 25, while continuing to issue machine-readable passports (MRPs) until October 22.
Existing machine-readable passports issued before October 23 will remain valid until their respective expiry dates. Holders of valid MRPs do not need to replace them before expiry. The transition to e-passports is part of Pakistan’s efforts to modernize passport services and improve the efficiency of travel documentation.
