Lusaka residents and traders have praised the return of order and hygiene at the Central Business District (CBD) especially at Simon Mwewa Lane Market.
The traders have expressed gratitude to Lusaka Mayor, Chitambala Mwewa, and the Lusaka City Council for implementing the Operation Clear Path Campaign which has allowed them to operate in a clean environment.
In an interview with the media during a spot check at the market one of the traders, Rhoyday Phiri, said the government should be hailed for cleaning up the city.
Ms Phiri said that hygiene and order has been brought to the market, adding that Lusaka mayor should be commended for the great job done.
“I am grateful to the government for the Operation Clear Path Campaign, it is a great initiative because sanity has returned to the city,” Ms Phiri said.
She added that the traders are happy because now they can operate in a clean environment.
Ms Phiri has however appealed to the government to quickly complete the construction of the nearby market so that more traders can be accommodated there.
Another trader at Simon Mwewa Lane Market, Fatima Banda, has thanked the government for ensuring the cleanliness of the city.
Ms Banda has since appealed to the Lusaka City Council to create more trading space so that more traders can be accommodated.
Meanwhile, a Lusaka resident, Paul Chitalu, has hailed the government for the Clear Path Operation.
Mr Chitalu said that with the clean trading environment customers are able to buy fruits and vegetables without being worried about diseases.
“You see, I can even buy banana’s from this market, because it is clean and there are no flies,” Mr Chitalu said.
