Latvia's petrolhead Prime Minister Andris Kulbergs will be among the competitors in the final race of the 2026 Latvian Rally season, the rally organizers have announced.
Kulbergs, who is a car enthusiast and regularly makes automotive analogies in his public pronouncements, has decided to take a moment before the start of the new Saeima parliamentary term to indulge his passion and start in a rally.
The Prime Minister will drive a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo VI and compete in the "Historic" car category, covering the full rally distance. Andis Veinbergs will serve as his co-driver.

Andris Kulbergs minirallijā "Latvija"
It is not his first event: in 2024 Kulbergs won a mini-rally competition in the historic car category.
Rally Sprint "Latvija" will take place on October 31st and November 1st. It will simultaneously be the final competition of the Latvian Rally Championship (LRČ) and the Latvian Rally Cup, as well as the Latvian Rally Sprint Cup, the Latvian Historic Car Rally Cup and the Mārtiņš Sesks "MRF Tyres Junior Challenge". Meanwhile, participants of the SSV buggy class will participate in the SRT Cup.
Rally Sprint "Latvija" is also included in the Estonian Rally Sprint Cup calendar this year, so plenty of participants from the neighboring country are also expected. The final special stage of the rally and the entire season, "Biķernieku trasei 60!", will feature participants from the Latvian Rally Championship, Latvian Rally Cup, as well as the Latvian Historic Car Rally Cup, including the Prime Minister.
